Complementary and Alternative Treatments

painful7Every depression treatment is not for every person suffering from it. Sometimes we have to seek other interventions, complementary and alternative treatmentsĀ in collaboration with our health providers. Those interventions are often home-based. Most importantly, we have to do our part when it comes to the intervention. No one else can do it for us.

Pain Meds Eventually Hurt

humanbehavior9I was on all types of pain medications to get relief for only a couple of hours, until Percocet, an opioid. My pain was relieved for hours at a time. There was an issue though. It was my liver.

According to my doctor andĀ WebMD, “Opioid drugs work by binding to opioid receptors in the brain, spinal cord, and other areas of the body. They reduce the sending of pain messages to the brain and reduce feelings of pain.”

The problem becomes the potential side effects.

“Do Our Feelings Tell Us What Is Right?”

feelings1An article in Psychology Today’s online website, Rolf Eber wrote an article titled “Do our feelings tell us what is right?“. The summary of his article captures the essence of an appropriate response;

“To summarize, we are brought up with moral norms within our family, community, and culture. These moral norms stem from tradition. Children internalize those moral norms without questioning them and without even knowing that there could be alternatives. Although such norms may be outdated, we should not dismiss them lightly because tradition tells us that they stood the test of time.”
