Closed head injuries frequently cause brain damage to several areas of the brain. This type of head injury occurs when an outside force, such as a blow to the head, doesn’t penetrate the skull, but it causes injury and brain swelling.

COVID-19 Has Changed Me…
I am learning to not be as social as I had been. When thinking about the not so distance, I was walking around hugging everybody! Now, I do virtual hugs that mean something but not as much as body touching.
Emotional and Psychological Trauma
The helpguide website describes “Emotional and psychological trauma is the result of extraordinarily stressful events that shatter your sense of security, making you feel helpless in a dangerous world.”
There is no correct way to respond to trauma. “The more frightened and helpless you feel, the more likely you are to be traumatized.”
The “Pain” of Fitting In
Psychology Today website has a very interesting article on the development of today’s adolescent. What most interested me was their remark, “What doesn’t serve a young person well is when they are cut off from self-understanding and are unknowing, and when they are socially cut off from others and are alone. Unhappiness + emotional ignorance + social isolation= more risk of doing harm.”
Parents and adults surrounding our have to help our youth better understand themselves as they grow into adults.

According to the Brainline website, “TBI is different. It upsets life on multiple levels: physical, psychological, social, and even spiritual. TBI affects the roots of who we are — our ability to think, to communicate, and to connect with other people.”
I can attest to their statement because I have had two TBI’s. My life has been disrupted since I was 18 years old. My second TBI further disconnected me from other people. Brainline describes my challenges perfectly.

The U.S. Election Assistance Commission has a list of organizations and places that assist people with disabilities to register to vote.
Americans diagnosed with mental illness
According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC) website, “Problems with mental health are very common in the United States, with an estimated 50% of all Americans diagnosed with a mental illness or disorder at some point in their lifetime.”
What about fear?
According to Psychology Today, Fear is not all instinctual. To have fear you also learn about what to fear which means you must also be taught to fear. We can also imagine our fear.
Fear can be more complex than we think.
